Since I was very young I always loved art. I loved it for many reasons: the color, the freedom of expression and because it gave me a "safe" excuse to get dirty. When I discovered pastels back in the early 1990s, I knew this was the medium for me. Not only are the colors luscious in their depth and character, but pastels are like chalk - you apply them with your hands. Yep, you're right, I get really dirty when I paint!
In case you don't know, pastels are different than oil and acrylic paints because they don't have any extenders/oils to make the paint move with a brush. Instead, the pure pigment is formed into varying sized chunks of color which you apply like you're working at a chalk board. Because you can't really blend colors together, a pastelist can never have too many pieces of these delightful chunks!
